Railways Boost Agri Support with 60-Tonne Vermicompost Shipment to Anantnag

The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has marked a key milestone in freight traffic with the arrival of the first vermicompost fertiliser consignment to south Kashmir’s Anantnag from Haryana’s Ambala, an official said.
The shipment, facilitated by the Business Development Unit (BDU) of the division, was transported via piecemeal traffic, highlighting the railways’ push to support small-scale traders, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the consignment comprised 1,200 bags of vermicompost, weighing around 60 tonnes. It was dispatched by Sikri Farms in Ambala and successfully delivered to Kashmir.
“This successful operation not only strengthens commercial ties but also underscores the pivotal role the railways play in facilitating the availability of agricultural products within Kashmir. It is being hailed as a significant milestone on the path toward sustainable business growth in the future,” Singhal said.
