Kashmir Student Bags Pan-TIFR Award

Junaid Majeed Bhat ,resident of Handwara has bagged the inaugural pan-TIFR Prof S Naranan Memorial Research Award. The award, given for the first time ever, honors young researchers for their contributions to sciences within the TIFR community. Pan-TIFR is a yearly meeting of students, researchers and faculty of various disciplines of the TATA Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The meeting showcases the research and acknowledges the contributions that researchers make.

Junaid is a graduate of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS). He is currently nearing his PhD. Junaid did his masters in Physics from NIT Rourkela, following which he got admission at ICTS – one of the TIFR institutions. He is about to conclude his PhD. He was selected for this highly competitive award “for his outstanding contribution in the physics of transport in linear chain systems for varied fields of research.

His works provide a new direction in the study of classical and quantum transport of heat and charge in ordered and disordered low dimensional systems. The award constituted in the memory of Prof S Naranan Memorial Research Award, an eminent astrophysicist, “aims to recognize important research contributions by TIFR students and postdocs… for a research contribution in any interdisciplinary area.” The inaugural award was given for outstanding work during the period between February 2020 and January 2022.
