J&K Reaffirms Commitment to Innovation as CM Opens ASCEND 2026

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday inaugurated the ASCEND 2026 Startup Summit in Srinagar, reaffirming the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s commitment to building a vibrant startup ecosystem, fostering innovation, and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and young innovators across the Union Territory.

The summit brought together startup founders, entrepreneurs, investors, industry leaders, policymakers, incubators, academic institutions, and aspiring innovators on a common platform to explore emerging business opportunities, promote innovation-driven growth, and strengthen collaboration within the startup ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasised that innovation and entrepreneurship are key drivers of economic growth, employment generation, and sustainable development. He said the government is focused on creating an enabling environment that empowers young entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into successful enterprises.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening startup support through incubation centres, mentorship programmes, skill development initiatives, access to finance, and industry partnerships. He noted that Jammu and Kashmir possesses immense entrepreneurial potential across sectors such as information technology, tourism, agriculture, handicrafts, healthcare, renewable energy, and creative industries.

He said initiatives like ASCEND 2026 provide a valuable platform for startups to showcase innovative solutions, connect with investors, exchange ideas with industry experts, and explore national and global market opportunities.

The summit also featured panel discussions, networking sessions, investor interactions, startup exhibitions, and knowledge-sharing forums, aimed at encouraging innovation, fostering collaboration, and promoting a culture of entrepreneurship among the youth.

Government officials said the event reflects Jammu and Kashmir’s growing focus on innovation-led development, startup acceleration, and investment promotion, while reinforcing the administration’s vision of positioning the Union Territory as an emerging hub for entrepreneurship and technology-driven growth.
