The Education Department has started a UT wide orientation programme to strengthen digital learning in government schools across J&K
According to a senior Education Officer Mohammad Iqbal Shah, the initiative aims to improve classroom learning outcomes by training teachers to use digital tools, smart applications and ICT based teaching methods in schools.
“Times have changed and teachers also need to change with changing times. We have asked teachers to adapt themselves and help students adapt as well so that learning outcomes in classrooms improve,”Shah said during an orientation session, in north Kashmir.
He said the department is gradually digitising schools in a phased manner by establishing ICT labs and providing digital boards in educational institutions across the UT.
“Not all schools have been covered yet, but digitisation is being carried out phase wise. The main purpose is to improve the learning ability of students and reduce existing learning gaps,” official said.
According to officials, zonal coordinators conducted special orientation sessions for teachers on the use of educational bots and digital applications which can support both teaching and student learning.
“An educational revolution will be seen in classrooms once these tools start functioning fully in schools. These applications are useful for the government as well as private schools, teachers and students,” he said.
The official said special focus is also being given to schools located in shadow areas where internet connectivity remains weak.
“For such schools, downloaded educational material is already being prepared and supplied. Teachers have been directed to use this material for training and supporting students in remote areas,” official added.
The department said the programme is part of a larger effort to modernise classroom teaching and make students more digitally equipped in line with changing educational needs across J&K.
