Wushu Championship Kicks into High Gear in Srinagar

The All India Inter-University Wushu Championship (Men & Women) is currently underway in Srinagar, drawing participation from universities across the country and highlighting the growing appeal of the sport at the university level.The championship, as per a KU statement issued on Tuesday, is being organised by the University of Kashmir under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. The event was declared open by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Monday.

The championship features competitions in both men’s and women’s categories, with bouts being conducted in an indoor sports complex in Srinagar.

The event has attracted a large number of athletes, reflecting increasing enthusiasm and competitive spirit among participants.Serving as a platform for young athletes, the tournament is witnessing intense and competitive bouts, with participants demonstrating skill, strength, agility, and tactical ability throughout the event.

In the men’s Sanda division, competitions are being held across 12 weight categories: below 48 kg, 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, 85 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg, and above 100 kg.

The matches have been marked by closely contested bouts and strong performances across categories.
