SKUAST-K hosts National Conference on ‘UDAAN’ to empower women entrepreneurs

SKUAST-K’s Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Center in Shalimar, in collaboration with the Agri Industries Vikas Chamber, organised a first-of-its-kind national conference for women entrepreneurs at the university’s Shalimar main campus, marking a significant milestone in the region’s entrepreneurial landscape.

The inaugural programme brought together a diverse range of professionals, budding startups, and young minds to celebrate the spirit of women’s entrepreneurship and empowerment.

The event was chaired by Dr Hina Shafi, Chairperson of the J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Nazir A Ganai, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-K, as the Guest of Honor. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Mehjabeen Nabi, Director of Care Foundation, Prof. Haroon R Naik, Director of Research and P&M, Dr. T.H. Masoodi, Registrar of SKUAST-K, Dr. Azmat A Khan, OSD to VC SKUAST-K, and Dr. Naveed Hameed, Chief Executive Officer of the SKIIE Center.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Prof. Nazir A Ganai stressed the importance of bringing about societal change through innovation and entrepreneurship, adding that women are change-makers who can drive the mission of a ‘VIKSIT J&K’ (Developed J&K).

The Chief Guest, Dr. Hina Shafi, highlighted the role of Khadi and Village Industries in fostering a sense of empowerment among women. She appreciated the organizers’ efforts and commended the many young female faces at the conference who were excelling in business and serving as benchmarks for others.

The inaugural function also included the honoring of two physically challenged yet professionally empowered young women, Insha and Nusrat, who serve as role models for society regarding women’s empowerment.
