Medical Education Boost: J&K Gains 190 Additional MBBS Seats

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted a Letter of Permission for 190 additional MBBS seats across five medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir for the academic session 2025-26.

The development was announced by Minister Sakina Itoo, highlighting that this milestone was achieved with the support and intervention of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.

“This is a significant step towards strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the Union Territory,” Sakina Itoo said.

The approval will allow the colleges to admit more students in the upcoming academic session, contributing to the region’s long-term goal of enhancing medical education and addressing healthcare workforce shortages.

Officials said the expansion of seats is part of broader efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of medical education in Jammu and Kashmir.

The new intake will provide aspiring medical students in the region with increased opportunities to pursue MBBS degrees without having to relocate outside the Union Territory.
