Jammu and Kashmir bagged six medals including three gold, three bronze in the recently held 5th Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) national championship held at Neemuch Madya Pradesh.Ayeera Chishti, Shukaib Rather, Zaid Shabir have brought laurels to valley by bagging gold in different MMA events.The championship which organized by MMA India started on May 19 and concluded on May 22,2022, in which athletes from all the states and union territories across India participated.
The star athlete from team JK was 16 -year-old Ayeera Chishti from Bemina Srinagar, who fought against Arya chaudhary from MP in the professional event “fight of knights” infront of more than 20,000 spectators and celebrities including former World Wrestler Great Khali.She fetched gold for team JK with her heart pounding and outstanding performance and her skill set attracted many prominent eyes.Ayeera and her Coach, Asif Hussian has been invited by UFC Gym – Mumbai for a training camp under international Brazilian coach, Paulo for wrestling and grappling.
Asif Hussain said that this is certainly a historical moment not only for these athletes but for the whole of J&K, besides MMA Association of J&K.”We wish Ayeera and other athletes every success for their future course,” he said.The another star of the event was 20 years Shukaib Rather, from AthaWajan Srinagar, a welterweight fighter who while competing in junior division won gold medal whereas 15 year Zaid Shabir from Peerbagh Srinagar, who fought in youth B lightweight division also won gold for team JK.Adnan Ali, Yawer Abbas and Labeeb Feroz all from Srinagar have succeeded in bagging bronze in junior bantamweight, junior featherweight and youth C 40Kg respectively.MMA Association of J&K have congratulated and expressed thier gratitude to the athletes for bringing laurels to J&K.”We extend our best wishes to these players in particular and every athelete of J&K in general for their future endeavours in sports,” official MMAAJK said.
