J&K: 47 highway projects spanning 810 km under construction

As many as 47 highway projects spanning 810 km, costing Rs. 41 thousand and 735 crore are currently under construction in Jammu and Kashmir.

This was revealed from the data released by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. As per the data, J&K is among the key regions benefiting from the government’s highway expansion plan, which has seen the country’s national highway length grow from 91 thousand and 287 km in 2014 to 1 lakh 46 thousand and 204 km in 2025.

The Ministry said these projects are expected to improve connectivity, enhance trade routes, and provide year-round accessibility to remote regions. Measures such as mandatory road safety audits, rectification of accident-prone black spots, and the introduction of advanced safety technologies in vehicles are being implemented.

The government has planned wayside amenities (WSAs) at 40-60 km intervals along national highways, with fuel stations, EV charging points, rest areas, and food courts. Out of 700 plus planned WSAs, 393 have been awarded, with 94 currently operational.
