Govt constitutes committee to promote commercial floriculture in J&K

The government accorded sanction to constitution of an eleven-member committee for the promotion of commercial floriculture in Jammu and Kashmir.The committee would be headed by the Principal Secretary to the Government Agriculture, Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department.The development has come in the backdrop of a review meeting held by the Chief Secretary Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta on January, 2022 with officials of Floriculture Department asking them to promote commercial floriculture and to explore the possibilities of establishing Tulip Gardens at Sonamarg and Gulmarg to prolong the tourist season in the Union territory.In a fresh order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), it accorded sanction to the constitution of a committee, for drafting a proposal and action plan for promotion of commercial floriculture keeping in view the various parameters like climatic conditions, geographical location, and suitability of crops in J&K.As per the order, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Department, Director General, Horticulture Kashmir (Nodal Officer, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture), Director Agriculture, (Nodal Officer Mission Director RKVY), Kashmir, Director, Floriculture Kashmir, Director, Floriculture Jammu, Extension Officer, SKUAST, Jammu/Kashmir, Deputy Director Floriculture (Central), Directorate of Floriculture, Kashmir, Deputy Director (In-charge Nodal Officer CSS) Directorate of Floriculture, Kashmir, Deputy Director (In-charge Nodal Officer CSS) Directorate of Floriculture, Jammu, An Expert in the Commercial Floriculture to be empanelled by the Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Department as per requirement have been appointed as members of the committee.The order further states that the committee shall submit a proposal, and action Plan within 30 days.Earlier, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta has stressed on the need to introduce suitable promotional schemes for the sector on the lines of schemes and programmes of the Agriculture and Horticulture departments while giving due consideration to the avenues of field-level convergence among the departments to enhance the farmers’ income.KVK holds scientific advisory committee meet in BandiporaBandipora, Jan 28: The Vice Chancellor Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Nazir Ahmad Ganai on Friday chaired 15th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Patushai Bandipora.Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Research, SKUAST-K Prof.  Sarfaraz Ahmad Wani, Comptroller SKUAST-K Bashir Ahmad Haji, Scientist Agriculture Extension  KVK Bandipora Dr Hilal Ahmad Malik attended the meeting  besides Deputy Director Sheep Husbandry, Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, Chief Horticulture Officer Bandipora, Officers of Floriculture, Fisheries, Sericulture, Information  also attended the meeting.Dr. Tariq Sultan, Scientist KVK Bandipora presented a powerpoint presentation of activities for the year 2020-21.Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor stressed upon the need to develop Farmer Producer Organizations in Dairy, Post-harvest processing of fruits and vegetables besides working on technologies for enhancing income of farmers.He appreciated the role of Kendra in dissemination of technologies and skill development of rural youth.  Feedback was received from the officers of the line department.Progressive farmers also attended the meeting and shared their experiences.
