ABDM Milestone: J&K Crosses 1.04 Crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts

In a significant step toward digital health transformation, Jammu and Kashmir has generated over 1.04 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), officials said on Tuesday.

According to official figures, the total number of ABHAs created in the Union Territory has reached 1,04,88,343, marking a major milestone in the region’s progress toward integrated, accessible, and technology-driven healthcare services.

“Jammu & Kashmir is not only advancing in health services and digital payments, but is also emerging as a frontrunner in digital healthcare,” said an official associated with the ABDM.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, launched nationally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2021, was formally rolled out in Jammu and Kashmir in July 2022. Since then, the UT has shown remarkable momentum in implementing digital health services.

An official said the ABDM aims to build a robust digital infrastructure to bridge gaps among various healthcare stakeholders using a nationwide “digital highway,” enabling seamless delivery of services.

In September 2025 alone, J&K generated an additional 7.5 lakh ABHA cards, showcasing rapid adoption at the grassroots level.

The success of the mission in J&K has been attributed to the leadership of Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, and Mission Director, ABDM, Anant Dwivedi, under whose guidance the UT has surpassed several national benchmarks.

In ABDM ecosystem, J&K has achieved 100% registration of public health professionals (HPR), 100% registration of public health facilities (HFR), and 100% registration of private health facilities (HFR).

Notably, under the “Scan & Share” service for OPD-based token generation, J&K ranks among the top four states in the country, with a total of 82,44,619 scans and shares recorded to date.

J&K has also been honoured with the Arogya Manthan Award in Delhi for its achievements.

An official said patients can now book OPD slots from home by opening the ABHA application, scanning the QR code available on the facility (or via the website abdmjk.in), and generating a token. That way, when they go to the hospital, their OPD slip is already ready, minimizing queues.

“Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are being generated by doctors; patients can view their medical histories via the PHR (Personal Health Record) app and total health record linked with the citizens’ ABHA IDs is Ninety Lakh Fourty Four Thousand and Eight Hundred Ten (90,44,810),” they said.

In March last year, the ABDM had launched a massive awareness campaign for the saturation of ABHA cards starting from major tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar.

The ABHA aims to access information from admission to discharge paperlessly and create a longitudinal health history for evidence-based treatment.

“Over the previous years, people were not having access to medical records, information about doctors, and were unable to consult remotely. Doctors as well as hospitals, labs, lacked access to patient medical history and faced challenges in follow-up and remote consultations,” they said

The ABDM provides choice to individuals to access both public and private health services, facilitate compliance with laid down guidelines and protocols, and ensure transparency in pricing of services.

It helps citizens digitize the claims process and enable faster reimbursement. This will enhance the overall ease of providing services amongst the health care providers.

The officials said highly qualified professionals work for the smooth operation and implementation of ABDM in the UT. The participation of health workers and allied field staff has remained excellent and played an important role in successfully implementing the mission.
