A government school setting example in Shopian by leaving behind all private schools in imparting quality education and co-curricular activities

While more than hundred schools have gone defunct in Shopian district due to fall in student rolls, a government middle school at Pargochi village is setting an example.

Despite being situated at a small village the Government Middle School Pargochi has 110 students on its roll and is considered most successful school in the area. Villagers credit the success of the school to its headmaster who is posted there for the last two years.

This year the school administration circulated posters inviting admissions for the school in nearby villages where there are no schools. The circulation of posters is rare or a first for a government school.

“There was a change in student education, we found that our children know more things regarding their subjects as compared to costly private schools and I feel all credit goes to the headmaster of the school who comes and leaves school on time and never compromises on the education of students, “a local resident said.

Also the teachers posted in School are honest towards their duties and giving best education to their students. Many of the students have won prizes at district and zonal levels. The passouts are of the school doing well in higher classes, with many opting for medical and non-medical streams.

The school not only covers the curriculum activities but is good in co-curricular activities as well.

The school has 110 students on roll and new admissions are in process.

As per the statement of Showkat Ahmad, headmaster of the school, the school got several new admissions and these new admissions were those who left private schools to join this school.

On circulation of posters, he said, if private schools can do this “why can’t we”.
“We are providing better education and facilities and I want to suggest parents to admit their wards in our school and see the difference,” he said, adding that they were initiating an awareness campaign in the villages about admissions and facilities.

The school is keen to setup a computer lab at the earliest so that students get the important knowledge of computer sciences.

Interestingly, the school has raised a vegetable garden, where the staffers pick vegetables for mid day meals.
