Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the 10th Muharram procession in Srinagar, joining thousands of mourners commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
The Lieutenant Governor paid his respects during the solemn observance, which marks the culmination of the mourning period remembered on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram. The occasion holds immense religious significance for Muslims, particularly the Shia community, as it commemorates the sacrifice of Imam Husayn and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
Thousands of devotees took part in mourning processions across Srinagar, with participants reciting elegies, offering prayers, and reflecting on the timeless values of justice, sacrifice, truth, and resistance against oppression upheld by Imam Husayn.The administration made elaborate arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession, including security deployment, traffic management, healthcare services, drinking water facilities, and other essential amenities for mourners.
