Kashmir’s Tourism Sector Bounces Back Amid Rising Tourist Confidence

Kashmir’s tourism industry is showing strong signs of recovery and resilience after facing a significant setback in the wake of the Pahalgam incident. According to Nasir Shah, Chairman of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, the sector has recovered to nearly 50–70 percent, reflecting the gradual return of tourist confidence in the Valley.

Speaking about the current tourism scenario, Shah said that sustained efforts by stakeholders and tourism authorities have played a crucial role in reviving the sector. A series of promotional campaigns, roadshows, and Familiarization (FAM) tours organized across the country have helped showcase Kashmir as a safe and attractive destination, encouraging travelers to return.

He noted that the positive response from tourists in recent weeks indicates growing confidence in Kashmir’s tourism potential. Popular destinations across the Valley have witnessed an increase in visitor arrivals, providing relief to businesses dependent on tourism and hospitality.

Industry stakeholders believe that improved connectivity will further accelerate the recovery. The expansion of rail networks, better road infrastructure, and enhanced transport facilities are expected to make travel to Kashmir more convenient and accessible for visitors from different parts of the country.

The revival of tourism is particularly significant for local communities whose livelihoods depend on the sector. Hotel owners, tour operators, transport providers, handicraft sellers, and small businesses are gradually witnessing improved economic activity as tourist footfall increases.

Tourism remains one of the key pillars of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, supporting thousands of families directly and indirectly. The ongoing recovery is being viewed as a positive indicator of the Valley’s resilience and its ability to overcome challenges through collective efforts and strategic promotion.

As tourist arrivals continue to rise and infrastructure projects gain momentum, stakeholders remain optimistic about the future of Kashmir tourism. The sector’s revival reflects a broader narrative of growth, development, and economic opportunity in the region.
