8-year-old Kashmiri girl wins gold in world kickboxing championships

an eight-year-old Kashmiri girl, Tajamul Islam created history by grabbing a gold medal at the world kickboxing championships in the under-8 category, held in Andria, Italy.

Islam is also the first kickboxer from the Kashmir valley to achieve this feat. In the final, Islam defeated her opponent from the USA, with 90 countries participating in the championships.

Islam, who is a class 2 student and a resident of Tarkpora village in Bandipora district, 65 kilometers from Srinagar made waves in the kickboxing arena when she won a gold in the national sub-junior category. Earlier this year she had also won a gold medal in the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu championships held at Haridwar.
