YSS promotes sports culture, drug-free society across J&K: Director

The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) organised a wide range of sports and other activities for students and youth across all 20 districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir throughout the year.

Aiming to promote a sports culture, a drug-free society, and a healthy nation, the department’s zonal and district-level offices played a crucial role in engaging students in various games and allied activities.

Director of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Subash C Chhibber, appreciated the efforts of the department’s field staff in tapping into the sports talent of school children and giving it a positive direction.

“Aiming to promote sports culture, a drug-free society, and a healthy nation, zonal and district-level offices play an important role in engaging students in different games and allied activities,” Chhibber stated.

The department has initiated a variety of sports activities through its zonal offices. The Zaldagar Zone conducted volleyball, tug-of-war, and recreational games on Wednesday, engaging a large number of students from the zone. The event was inaugurated by the Principal of MPML HSS Nikhat Mir, in the presence of ZPEO Zaldagar Javed Ahmad Malik and officials from the Department of Youth Services and Sports. An anti-drug pledge was administered before starting the event, and the winners were awarded by the concerned ZPEO.

Meanwhile, the Rainawari Zone conducted chess and carrom competitions at Boys High School Rainawari, with more than 50 students participating enthusiastically. The event was inaugurated by ZPEO Rainawari Rifat Shafi, who urged the students to stay safe from drugs and adopt games and sports as part of their lifestyle.

In an inspiring endeavour to foster cultural and spiritual understanding among the youth, the Department of Youth Services and Sports organised a vibrant Seerat Conference for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls in the Mattan Zone of Anantnag district. The event, held at Middle School Pranbhawan, witnessed enthusiastic participation from budding talents.

The Youth Services and Sports Office in Ganderbal also organized intramural sports activities across the district, with students from different sports zones participating in multiple sports events, showcasing their enthusiasm and passion for sports.
