The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) continues to promote grassroots sports culture across Jammu and Kashmir by organizing inter-zonal and inter-school tournaments in various districts, engaging thousands of young athletes in structured competitions.
In Ramban, the Inter-Zonal District Level Sports Tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 boys in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Volleyball began at DPL Ground Ramban. The tournament was inaugurated by MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju, who praised YSS for identifying and nurturing budding talent. District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jagdesh Raj Sharma emphasized the importance of sports in character building and youth development. Budgam saw spirited participation in Under-17 girls’ events in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and Volleyball at Sports Stadium Budgam, supervised by DYSSO Ghulam Hassan Lone.
In Baramulla, large-scale inter-school competitions were held across Uri, Sopore, Wagoora and Dangerpora zones, with over 800 participants. DYSSO Zahoor Ahmad Wani appreciated the overwhelming response and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to inclusive sports development.
Meanwhile, Anantnag concluded multiple events with enthusiastic participation from Bijbehara, Achabal and Shangus zones, with Hanfia School Dialgam emerging as a standout performer.
Events were accompanied by anti-drug awareness campaigns. In Pulwama, zonal-level tournaments drew large participation, and DYSSO Talib Hussain encouraged youth to pursue sports as a career. Winners were felicitated, and organizing officials were lauded. Ganderbal hosted the Inter-Zonal Kho-Kho Championship at GCOPE Gadoora, where Zone Ganderbal defeated Zone Tullamulla in a thrilling final. Simultaneously, football trials for Under-19 boys and girls were conducted to search talent for higher-level competition.
