With over 60 medals, Srinagar teen conquers national arena..

Srinagar teenager has garnered over 60 medals in martial arts, making her mark on the national stage and earning praise across the country.

Rutba Showkat, a 16-year-old enthusiast, devoted the past eight years to mastering Pencak Silat, an Indonesian martial art, achieving exceptional success and recognition.
Her journey commenced from a desire to pursue something unique, deviating from the norm among her peers. “I always had different tastes and wanted to stand out,” Rutba shared with Rising Kashmir.
Driven by dedication and love for her sport, Rutba attained significant milestones, clinching a national-level gold medal. Her accomplishments not only earned her acclaim but also became a source of inspiration for young girls in Srinagar. “Give your best, uphold your parents’ trust, and never let anyone deter you,” she encouraged.

Initially apprehensive about Rutba’s unconventional choice, her family eventually became her staunchest supporters. “Initially, they were hesitant, but later my father, mother, elder sister, even my younger brother, extended tremendous support,” Rutba mentioned.
Despite encountering criticism from certain relatives who doubted her path due to societal norms, Rutba silenced their skepticism with her outstanding achievements. “Many relatives questioned my choices, fearing it would bring dishonour to the family. But now, my success has silenced their doubts,” Rutba proudly stated.

Not solely excelling in martial arts, Rutba’s artistic skills as a calligrapher have garnered numerous awards. Her talents have been recognized in the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records, adding depth to her impressive achievements.

Her accolades include the 2022 Femina Award, India Book of Records 2021, Asia Book of Records 2021, and various other prestigious awards, showcasing her multifaceted talents.
Acknowledging the government’s efforts in promoting sports, Rutba emphasized the need for further improvements. “The government is making strides, but there’s still room for enhancement,” she suggested.
