In a significant achievement for sports in Jammu and Kashmir, two young Volleyball talents have been selected for the national camp ahead of the prestigious CAVA Volleyball Championship, scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan.
The players—Rehan Pravez from the border district of Poonch and Nasir Sofi from Baramulla—have secured their spots in the Under-16 age category. They are among 24 players shortlisted from across India for the specialized national coaching camp organized by the Volleyball Association of India (VAI).
Rehan Pravez, a standout player from Shaheed Manjit Club, Poonch, rose to prominence following his stellar performance at the 7th Khelo India Youth Games held recently in Bihar, where Jammu and Kashmir clinched the gold medal. Having just passed his Class 10 examinations, Rehan is the son of a Physical Education Lecturer from Poonch and is regarded as one of the top young spikers in the country.
If selected from the national camp, both will be part of the Indian team representing the country at the CAVA Volleyball Championship in Uzbekistan.
Commenting on the development, Mohd Tariq, Chairman of the Shaheed DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club, expressed pride in the players’ achievements. “Young athletes are following in the footsteps of international players. Our club has produced several top-tier players in the past, and currently, 60 young players are undergoing training. We are confident that many more will rise to national and international levels from this border district in the near future,” he said.
This milestone not only highlights the talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir but also underscores the growing sports infrastructure and support for youth development in the region.
