Two J&K hospitals get national certification under LaQshya program

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has granted National Certification to two rural hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara under the LaQshya programme, marking a significant improvement in quality of Labour Rooms and Maternity Operation Theaters.
As per the communication issued by National Health Systems Resource Centre, CHC Kupwara has received the national quality certification for labour room and maternity OT.
“At the outset, I congratulate you and your team for taking up one Public Health Facility of Jammu & Kashmir for Quality Certification under LaQshya program. The facilities underwent External Assessment by the empanelled LaQshya external assessors,” it said.
The certified health facility should strive to work on recommended areas of improvements and submit the action plan to the State Quality Assurance Unit.
The State Quality Assurance Unit is expected to verify improvement in the surveillance audits and submit status to certification Unit NHSRC along with the surveillance reports.
Similarly, the second health facility that has been granted national certification under the LaQshya Programme is CHC Sogam in the frontier Kupwara district.
The communication said it has also received certification for improved maternity services, including one year for the Labour Room and three years for the maternity operation theatre.
It said that the certified health facility should strive to work on recommended areas of improvements and submit the action plan to the State Quality Assurance Unit.
“The State Quality assurance unit is expected to verify the improvement in the surveillance audits and submit the status to Certification Unit NHSRC along with the surveillance reports,” it added.
The Government of India launched the LaQshya program to further improve quality of care in the labour room and maternity operation theatres in public health facilities.
These facilities were assessed by a team of highly qualified and empanelled assessors from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in the month of April 2024. The National Certification will be valid subject to annual verification of the scores by the State Quality Assurance Committee.
