In a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, two young athletes, Raja Azlaan Khan and Raja Mahir Khan, clinched medals at the prestigious World Pencak Silat Championships held in Abu Dhabi from December 18-22, 2024, bringing glory to the region and the nation.
Raja Azlaan Khan earned a silver medal for Team India in the 5th Junior World Pencak Silat Championship, competing in the Junior H Open Category.
His remarkable performance showcased exceptional skill and determination, making the entire nation proud. “Winning this silver is a dream come true. It’s the result of months of hard work and support from my coaches and family. I am proud to represent India and Jammu and Kashmir on this global stage,” said Raja Azlaan.
Meanwhile, Raja Mahir Khan won a bronze medal in the 20th World Pencak Silat Championship in the Junior I Open Category, also representing Team India. His resilience and dedication played a key role in securing this impressive achievement on the global stage. “This bronze is a testament to my unwavering dedication. It is a step forward in my journey, and I am excited to continue representing my country and region,” Raja Mahir shared.
Both athletes have also excelled at the district, UT, and national levels, winning gold in the All India National Championships, further highlighting their potential. Now, the champions have been selected to represent India at the upcoming Asian Pencak Silat Championship. While the event’s dates and venue are yet to be finalized, Raja Azlaan Khan and Raja Mahir Khan are determined to continue their winning streak and bring more laurels to the country.
“Our goal is clear – we want to win and bring pride to India. The upcoming Asian Championship will be another opportunity to prove ourselves,” added Raja Azlaan. Their success not only marks a personal milestone but also places Jammu and Kashmir on the global map in the world of martial arts.
