Tral youth starts podcast to connect Kashmir with world

An 18-year-old boy Umar Nisar from a hamlet in South Kashmir’s Tral became the first Kashmiri to start a podcast. Nisar has initiated a youth-based Digital Media Network called ‘Mashq-Talks’, which is a Kashmir based talk show. The Mashq podcast series is an episodic series of digital audio or video files which a user can listen on Spotify, Google Music, Sound Cloud, iTunes, YouTube, Facebook and other digital platforms.
“The main motive of the podcast is to connect young Kashmir to the world.
In 2014, when cloudburst and floods devastated the Valley, Umar Nisar started to take interest in Kashmiri matters. Hailing from Tral-Awantipora area of South Kashmir, Umar has become the first Kashmir from Kashmir to start a podcast.
From a a very young age, Umar Nisar has achieved laurels, which include sharing the stage with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan. King Khan was the first Bollywood actor to speak at Ted Talks and Umar Nisar the first Kashmiri teenager to speak at Ted Talks.
Dreaming to work in Bollywood, Nisar is currently working on many projects but, right now, Mashq-Talks is his main focus.
“I aspire to become a film-maker, but, I also want to continue radio as my career,” Umar said.
