KVK Budgam held a valedictory to five day training programme on “Natural Farming” in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Budgam from 20th to 24th March to foster an exchange of information to 20 Krishi Sakhis on the potential and challenges in the adoption of Natural Farming in district Budgam.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Bilal A. Lone (Prof. and Head KVK Budgam) highlighted the role of Krishi Sakhis in building a common understanding and workable strategies to popularize Natural Farming among farmers by conducting awareness programmes. Dr. Shazia Ramzan (SMS Soil Science KVK Budgam) focused on the importance of cow-based Natural Farming and its potential.
She gave a detailed presentation on pillars of Natural farming. Dr. Lal Singh, Professor, Division of Agronomy FOA Wadura gave an elaborate lecture on different cropping systems and crop diversification practices to be carried out for step-by-step conversion from conventional farming to natural farming. Mr. Syed Tafazzul Madni, Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam during the valedictory session impressed on the adoption of Natural Farming at local level. The five-day training programme was executed as per prescribed training schedule, scientists from KVK deliberated on Soil Health Management in Natural Farming, Cropping System, Seed System for Natural Farming, Plant Protection System, and Transition Journey of farmers in Natural Farming. Demonstration on preparation of Jeevamrit and Ghanjeevamrit was also undertaken at KVK Budgam.
