Three-Day Women’s Volleyball Tournament concludes at Baramulla Degree College

A three-day Women’s Volleyball Inter-College Tournament, jointly organized by Govt Degree College Baramulla and CRPF 53 Bn, concluded on Thursday at Baramulla Degree College’s Indoor Stadium. The event aimed to promote women’s empowerment in sports, drawing participation from 12 colleges across the Kashmir Valley.

The tournament featured a total of 11 matches, with eight played on the first two days and three, including the final, on the concluding day. The final match saw Govt College for Women Baramulla face off against Govt College for Women MA Road Srinagar, with the latter emerging victorious and clinching the trophy.
“The purpose of this tournament is to promote women’s sports and cultivate an interest in physical activity among them. Engaging in sports not only develops physical strength but also fosters mental stability and resilience. The enthusiastic participation from 12 colleges highlights the growing interest in sports among our youth,” said Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone, Principal of Govt Degree College Baramulla.

The winners were awarded a cash prize of ₹18,000, while the runners-up received ₹9,000. Trophies and medals were distributed by Commandant 179 CRPF Bn, Vinay Kumar Choudhary, and Ranjit Kumar Singh, Commandant 53 Bn. Certificates were also given to volunteers and participants.

Prof. Tariq Chalkoo, Head of the Physics Department, emphasized the potential of young women athletes. “This tournament has demonstrated the capabilities of our girls. With the right platforms, they can aim for national and international levels. It fills us with pride to see their talent shine,” he said.

Fahima Kousar, a member of the winning team, expressed her joy. “It was tough at first, but we played strong and won. I encourage other girls to step forward and showcase their talent, and I urge parents to support their daughters in pursuing sports,” she said
