For decades, the business class in Kashmir has been dominated by men with barely any woman even willing to venture into this risk prone, challenging field. However, this idea of a male dominated business sector doesn’t go well with the next gen. The modern independent women of today do not let the societal stereotypes deter them in pursuing her dreams. They chase them fearlessly and with utmost determination and intellect. And so does Anam – our 27 year old young and graceful lady from the Valley who has set up her own designer studio and given it a beautiful name – The Closet Cloud by Anam.
Anam Siraj is a commerce graduate who initially took to working in an MNC in Delhi. The hectic schedules and long working hours associated with a typical corporate house made her stop and think, one fine day, that if she puts so much time, hard work and effort into something of her own, it would definitely have some amazing results. This was it. She just didn’t let this thought vanish, gave it some time and started to think about what interests and fascinates her more than anything else in the world. The answer was “CLOTHES”. And hence was born the concept of The Closet Cloud by Anam. With all that was in her mind and in her pocket at that time, she along with a friend started off with a page on Facebook and started taking online orders. The response she got was phenomenal and this encouraged her to do more. Her online business went on for a year and a half and it was during this time that Anam decided to go for a diploma in “textile designing”, which made her excel in what she plans to do.
The competition which she faces in this field of business is humongous. But it doesn’t bother her. Her concept is unique. Her brand is aimed at every woman who has a taste for fashion, quality and comfort. It introduces the concept of “Personal style” at affordable prices in the Valley more than trends and fads. She plans to democratize fashion by offering more options and involvement from her broad base of clients. Besides, quality has been her all time mantra. She feels that a good quality product fascinates all. And we agree with her.
Anam strongly believes that women today should be financially and emotionally independent.
“An independent woman is someone who knows her identity and has figured it out completely. Being an independent woman, and a happy one at that, is the most important person you can be. When you’re not dependent on anyone else, you get to live your life with that free mind and soul. You don’t have to wait for people, you never put yourself second, and your complete self-awareness keeps you always doing your thing —happily so. An independent woman takes care of herself and her family as well. She is capable of so much. We just need to realize this. By being this independent woman, you set an example for your children to follow, just like my mother did.
Being independent isn’t an option, it is a necessity. So I hope we work on this”
She is an entrepreneur – one who has dared to dream and is turning that dream into a beautiful reality, one step at a time. We salute this confident young lady passion and desire to achieve what she wanted to achieve in a world which constantly mocks the power of women. She is an inspiration to many and here is what she has to say to all the young ladies out there who hesitate to step into the world of entrepreneurship.
“I see so many people around thinking of venturing into this exciting world of entrepreneurship. Being an entrepreneur is an experience unlike any other. You must relentlessly chase perfection. You need a ridiculous amount of passion. Once you are ready to give it your 100%, trust me, no one can stop you.
And then if you ask me about the society, you will face n number of critics which I don’t even think matter
All the beautiful ladies, follow your aim, follow your passion, make a way. Everything else will just follow.”
