TAAK’s 16th AGM puts spotlight on sustainable, offbeat travel trends

The Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) convened its 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, uniting a large assembly of members from across the Valley, including prominent leaders from local and national travel trade associations, tour operators, hoteliers and houseboat owners.

The AGM began with the presidential address from TAAK President Rauf A Tramboo, who stressed the importance of decongesting popular tourist destinations by promoting offbeat locales.

Tramboo highlighted that diversifying tourism offerings not only enhances visitor experiences but also protects the natural beauty of Kashmir.

He urged all members to adopt ethical business practices and to be responsible ambassadors of tourism, stating that the industry thrives in harmony with the environment and local communities.

Tramboo reassured attendees of the association’s dedication to making Jammu and Kashmir a welcoming and tourist-friendly haven.

Following his address, Secretary General Sajad Ahmad Kralyari presented the Annual General Report, which detailed the achievements of the association over the past year. He emphasized TAAK’s efforts in promoting Kashmir’s unique tourism products both domestically and internationally, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. The report underscored the significant strides made in marketing initiatives and partnerships that have expanded the reach of Kashmir’s tourism offerings.

The event was anchored by Past President Farooq A Kuthoo, who reiterated the need for responsible tourism practices and collaboration among all stakeholders in the industry.

Kuthoo highlighted the collective responsibility to preserve the region’s natural and cultural resources for future generations.

He said TAAK is dedicated to promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.

A notable moment during the AGM was the unanimous passing of a resolution, proposed by Past President Ashfaq Sidiq, advocating for “one association, one office bearer or EC member.”

This resolution was hailed by members.

The event culminated with the presentation of the prestigious Manzoor Siddiq Memorial Award, bestowed upon renowned hotelier Zahoor Ahmad Tramboo.

This award, presented by Chief Guest Ghulam Muhamad Dug, honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the tourism sector.

In his acceptance speech, Zahoor Ahmad expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and lauded TAAK’s relentless efforts in promoting tourism.

He also honored the legacy of Manzoor Siddiq, whose vision and dedication, he said, have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Chief Guest GM Dug emphasized the resilience of Kashmir’s tourism sector, which has withstood numerous challenges thanks to the unwavering commitment of the travel trade fraternity.

He called on the LG administration to provide vital financial support to enhance tourism infrastructure and urged the government to facilitate the renewal of registrations for existing tourism units, ensuring they have the necessary resources for upgrades.

The AGM also featured key speakers including Gowhar Maqbool, President of the Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association, Nasir Ahmad Shah, Chairman of IATO (J&K Chapter), Chairman TAAI (J&K Chapter) Athar Yameen, Shamim Shah Chairman TAFI (J&K Chapter), Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman of Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), Sameer Baktoo Chairman elect TAAI (J&K Chapter), Secretary General Travel Agents Association of Kashmir Waseem Goosani,(TASK), Zahoor A Qari Convener MAAJI DEEDAR GROUP and others.
