SSCL to receive ‘Award of Excellence in Urban Transport’

Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) has been awarded the “Award of Excellence in Urban Transport” for the best non-motorized transport system by the Union Ministry.
The honour will be presented at the UMI Conference 2024 in Gujarat on October 27 by Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal.
Commissioner/Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Department J&K, Mandeep Kour, and CEO of Srinagar Smart City, Dr. Owais Ahmed IAS, have been appreciated for the accomplishment.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, CEO Srinagar Smart City, Dr Owais Ahmed said that the city has been recognized for its efforts in promoting safe and sustainable travel options for pedestrians and cyclists.
“Our goal is to create dedicated spaces like cycle tracks, walkways, and plazas along the Jhelum riverfront to offer citizens a secure and eco-friendly transit environment,” he said.
He said that the project, valued at Rs. 50 crore, includes leveled walkways to replace previously uneven ground, making travel easier and safer.
The left bank of the river is complete, while the right bank is nearing completion which will create a continuous path along the riverfront. It will make the project a milestone for sustainable urban development in Srinagar, he said.
Owais said that these paths will be connected across the city to further enhance the non-motorized transport network of the city.
“Our goal is to provide citizens a safer, eco-friendly way to travel within the city,” he added.
