Srinagar Zero Bridge emerges as new hotspot for tourists

The Zero Bridge, spanning the Jhelum River in Srinagar, has emerged as a new hotspot for local as well as non-local tourists. The bridge, known for its scenic views and pleasant ambience, has been attracting crowds seeking respite from the scorching heatwave that gripped Jammu and Kashmir in May.
With temperatures in Jammu soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, many people from neighbouring regions, including Jammu, have flocked to Kashmir’s cooler climes. The banks of Dal Lake and the Jhelum River offer a refreshing escape from the oppressive heat, drawing tourists to these popular spots.
Speaking with Rising Kashmir, tourists relaxing at the Zero Bridge viewpoint expressed their delight.
“We are very happy to have visited Kashmir. The weather here is pleasant and a stark contrast to the heatwave back home,” said a tourist from Delhi.
Another visitor from Delhi added, “Our area witnessed heavy heat, and it’s a relief to be here where it doesn’t feel like a heatwave at all. This truly is paradise on earth.”
The surge in tourists has also benefited local businesses. The owner of Zero Degree Cafe, located at Zero Bridge, shared his thoughts with Rising Kashmir. “The revenue we generate here allows us to employ people to maintain the cleanliness of Zero Bridge, as many tourists visit daily. It’s our responsibility to keep the area clean,” he said.
Zero Bridge is not only a favourite among tourists but also a popular location for film shoots, adding to its charm. The cafe owner highlighted the importance of tourism for the local economy.
“The tourism industry is the backbone of the Kashmir Valley. Many of us are directly or indirectly associated with this sector, and we are pleased to see the influx of tourists,” he added.
