Srinagar Smart City mulling to install large-sized VMDs in City

With already fifteen Variable Message Displays (VMD) installed across many parts of Srinagar City, Srinagar Smart City is further mulling installing ten more VMDs bigger than the existing sizes of 250 SqFts, said an official on Wednesday.

An official, looking directly into the project said that they have already installed around fifteen VMDs in the city and now they are planning to install ten more with bigger sizes.

“In order to provide public with information like Government policies, programs, events, traffic/ Congestion, weather reports, under Srinagar Smart City 15 VMDs of 70 SqFts have already been installed and now we are planning to install 10 more of 250 SqFts”, said the official.

The official said that VMDs will help in providing relevant & instant information to the citizens and will also Display videos, weather information, and warning messages, these video panels would also display information about the availability of parking slots in different parts of the city.

The official further said that they are also going to install a hundred ‘Front Lit’ hoardings in the city for advertisements.

“The hoardings in the city will be on new lines as they will come up with under the front-lit category so that the visibility on them looks more attractive”, the official added.

Notably, the Smart City Mission was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Srinagar Smart City project was approved in Round 3 challenge held in April 2017 with a Special Purpose under Smart City Mission envisions transforming Srinagar into an eco-friendly, resilient and socio-economically vibrant city that celebrates its natural and cultural heritage creating harmony and opportunities for all.
