Srinagar innovator to launch solar car ‘RAY’

Bilal Ahmed, a mathematics teacher and innovator from Srinagar, is set to unveil Kashmir’s first-ever solar-powered car, RAY, on February 10.

The vehicle’s design ensures maximum energy efficiency by reducing air resistance and enhancing overall performance.
It features a cutting-edge Battery Management System (BMS) that guarantees a consistent power backup. Moreover, RAY is equipped with intelligent sensors for autonomous parking, ensuring safety and convenience in tight spaces.

“The car is fitted with sensor-optimized solar panels that adjust their orientation to maximize sunlight capture, optimizing energy utilization,” Bilal said.
One of the most distinctive aspects of RAY is its power-generating gull-wing doors, which incorporate embedded solar panels to provide additional energy support. The rear section boasts music-responsive lights, adding a dynamic visual appeal to its futuristic design.

Bilal said that his innovation is protected by patents, ensuring exclusivity in aesthetics and engineering. My research and development efforts have been recognized globally, with publications in more than six countries attesting to the car’s technological advancements, he said.
Earlier Bilal’s work has drawn praise from several prominent figures, including business tycoon Anand Mahindra.

On social media, Bilal is being celebrated as a visionary, with many comparing him to Elon Musk.
In 2022, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a post on X said that “It seems the car could one day also fly.”

“My dream has always been to manufacture a luxurious yet affordable vehicle. Inspiration stems from decades of automotive advancements, particularly the innovations of a Detroit-based engineer and automobile pioneer,” he said.

To enhance efficiency, Bilal said that he specifically chose high-performance solar panels that generate electricity even with minimal solar exposure while occupying minimal space.

“The car is fully automatic, featuring a sleek, space-conscious design with gull-wing doors,” he added.
Bilal said there was lack of financial support if u had received the necessary backing, perhaps I would have already revolutionized the automobile industry in Kashmir.
He initially set out to design a car for disabled individuals but had to halt the project due to financial constraints.
