Srinagar city to have road directional signages soon

Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) on Friday said it has floated tenders for Road and Directional Signages by the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines that will make navigation, identification and location of destinations easier for visitors in the city.
A senior official of the SSCL told Rising Kashmir the effort will provide signs across Srinagar city that look aesthetically pleasing and will provide required signages in the city. He said the signages have been designed as per the guidelines set by Indian Road Congress (IRC).
The official said Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) mutually have floated tenders for Road and Directional Signages and interested and aspiring firms have been asked to participate in the bid available at http://jktenders.gov.in and submit the prerequisites by the end of January 21, 2022.
He said the said developmental measure will save the time of the road users to reach their destinations and added, “It will reassure visitors that they are travelling in the right direction, give notice of locations and services, direct visitors to tourist locations along with advance providing optimum road safety to the commuters”.
Pertinently, Smart City Mission was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Government of India in which 100 cities were to be selected for Urban renewal and retrofitting to promote cities that provide core infrastructure, give a decent quality of life to their citizens and apply smart solutions to improve services and infrastructure.
According to an official, the Road and Directional Signages would be commissioned under nine types with road safety and other road and traffic objectives.
He said under Type-A, the Srinagar Smart City Limited will erect a shoulder-mounted signboard with a triple strip, while under Type-B, place identification signboards will be commissioned.
Under Type-C, advanced direction signboards will be erected while under Type-D the signages would be retro-reflective types having two-three legs with the double-sided gantry.
The official said under Type-E the signages would be retro-reflective with overhead cantilever signboards while under Type-F it will be retro-reflective single-sided overhead gantry signage butterfly.
Similarly, under Type-G, there will be retro-reflective overhead gantry (to be clamped on flyovers, foot over bridges etc) while under Type-H there will be circle-shaped mandatory and regulatory signboards.
“Under Type-I, there will be wayfinding including informative city map signboards erected on the required locations of the city”, the official added.
It is worthwhile to mention SSCL had recently completed the restoration and renovation of several heritage and religious sites in the city aimed to ensure the conservation of historical sites and to manage the footfall of visitors, both local and non-local there. Besides, there are dozens of cities related developmental projects in its pipeline which as per the official will be taken up in the forthcoming financial year.
