Sopore girl bags 1st position at state level calligraphy competition

Reema Rashid 20, a student of Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Mission Sopore brought laurels to the institution and the town by bagging first position in state level calligraphy competition.

The competition was conducted by Kashovatics in Bandipora district where around 25 students from various districts participated in the calligraphy competition.

Reema is doing her graduation from Government Women’s Degree College, Sopore besides practicing her hands at calligraphy at Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Mission, Sopore branch.

She received a cheque prize of Rupees 5000/= for bagging first position in the competition.
An enthusiastic calligrapher Reema Rashid who hails from Watlab area of Sopore while describing the feat told Rising Kashmir that she has been working tirelessly to gain the knowledge and art of using the fine strokes of brush.

“I thank my teachers at Rajiv Gandhi literacy Mission Sopore for what I am today. The teachers here taught me the calligraphy techniques very minutely. It would not have been possible without the support of the teachers and my parents, ” Reema added.

Sadaf Fayaz, 19 a resident of Watlab Sopore and Raheena Rasheed 19 a resident of Janwara Sopore from the same institution won the second and third prize consecutively.
Chairman Syed Iqbal Hussain Rajiv Gandhi literacy Mission Sopore thanked all the students for making the institution proud.

He said that the Rajiv Gandhi literacy Mission was started in 2007 and every year 75 students are trained at the institution.

“The students for the calligraphy course are enrolled for two years and the cost of books, courses and other things is taken care of by the institution. After one year of training, the students are being taught graphics in order to fine tune their skills,” Syed Iqbal said.

Chairman Syed Iqbal Hussain Rajiv Gandhi literacy Mission Sopore said that not a single student of the institution is unemployed as they are now able to sell their calligraphic work for a good amount and the buyers are in abundance.

The position holders appealed the youth to spend their energies in a positive way and join the calligraphy courses at Rajiv Gandhi literacy Mission Sopore and live a better life.
