The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has achieved a remarkable milestone by generating a whopping revenue of Rs 23 crore from April to December 2024. This revenue was amassed through various facilities provided to the people of Srinagar.
An official from the SMC stated, “These funds are being utilized to provide better facilities to the people falling under Srinagar Municipal Corporation, ensuring improved living standards for all residents.”
The corporation also intensified its crackdown on illegal construction, conducting 850 trials during this period, which resulted in the demolition of hundreds of unauthorized structures. Additionally, the SMC issued 847 building permissions, reflecting its proactive role in streamlining urban development.
In a notable achievement, the Srinagar Smart City initiative reported a revenue of Rs 11.5 crore from smart city buses over 13 months, further bolstering the city’s financial resources.
To enhance waste management, the SMC has been providing home collection services in all 74 wards of the city. This regular and efficient service has been instrumental in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across Srinagar. Furthermore, the corporation has extended its services to include dewatering operations in various flood-prone areas, ensuring swift drainage during adverse weather conditions.
Apart from these initiatives, the SMC generates revenue through multiple sources, including taxes, fees for documentation, rent from municipal properties, and issuing birth and other essential certificates. These efforts collectively contribute to the city’s economic growth while enabling the provision of essential services to residents.
The official highlighted that the corporation’s initiatives are part of a broader vision to make Srinagar a model city under the Smart City Mission. “Our focus remains on ensuring sustainable development while addressing the needs of the growing population,” the official added.
