In an endeavor to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of life sciences, SKIIE Centre at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir, organized a one-day workshop in collaboration with BIRAC focusing on bio-entrepreneurship, intellectual property (IP), and technology management.
The workshop aimed to provide participants with insights into the intricacies of starting and managing a bioenterprise, understanding the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, and effectively managing technology in life sciences.
Distinguished speakers and experts from academia, industry, and government bodies shared their knowledge and experiences during the workshop. They delved into various aspects of bio-entrepreneurship, including identifying market opportunities, navigating regulatory frameworks, and securing funding for biotech startups.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganie highlighted the remarkable achievements of the university in the field of life sciences. He commended the dedication of faculty members, researchers, and students . Furthermore, he expressed his optimism about the future patent prospects of the university, citing ongoing research projects and collaborations that hold promise for generating intellectual property and driving industry-academic partnerships. He encouraged participants to continue their efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship, assuring them of the university’s support in realizing their aspirations.
Managing Director of BIRAC, Dr. Jitender Kumar shared valuable insights on the abundant opportunities available for entrepreneurs and researchers to access funding through BIRAC. He emphasized BIRAC’s role as a catalyst in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in this sector, offering a wide range of funding schemes tailored to various stages of research and development.
Prof Haroon R Naik, Director Research and P&M SKUAST K briefed the audience about the status of University in arena of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship and in skill development.
Naveed Hamid, CEO of SKIE Centre, expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized the importance of such workshops in nurturing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
Later two technical session were held by Dr Vinita and Mr Amit , IP&TM BIRAC Govt of India where in Guest speakers deliberated on various themes.
During the Workshop, Book on Bio-preneurship authored by Naveed Hamid and Falak Jan were released by Honourable Vice Chancellor SKUAST K in presence of dignitaries from BIRAC and University.
