SKUAST-K debates shaping robust innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem for J&K

The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) hosted a two-day inter-university academic brainstorming on sustainable development through innovation and the startup ecosystem. The event, held on August 23-24, 2024, at the main campus in Shalimar, featured a pivotal session on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship in J&K’ chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazir A Ganai.
The session featured a series of keynote addresses by renowned experts in the field. Dr Riyaz Bashir, Professor of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA, presented his groundbreaking work on the endovascular catheter. He detailed the development process, from invention to FDA approval, and emphasized the critical role of teamwork and regional innovation in addressing medical challenges.
More insights were provided by Dr Sheikh Fayaz from Zhing University China; Dr Radhika Trikha, CEO of AwaDH IIT Ropar and Ms Anju Gupta President and Co-founder of IVY Cap. They shared their experiences in supporting innovations and startups, and highlighted the need for government policies to facilitate the commercialization of new technologies.
The keynote presentations were followed by a panel discussion where experts offered strategies for advancing innovation. The panellists advocated for the establishment of a structured framework to streamline the innovation process, reduce legal barriers, and ensure accessible funding and mentorship for innovators. They also shared best practices for startup success.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks to Prof Nazir A Ganai, who has been instrumental in developing SKUAST-K’s startup and innovation policy.
