Police Cricket Tournament for Women concludes in Kupwara

Empowering platform for female athletes to showcase their talent, final match of Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women, which started on 11th July-2024 under CAP-2024, was played on Saturday at Sports Ground DPL Kupwara.

The tournament featured eight Women teams from across District Kupwara & among them Growth Sports Academy &Lolab Stars played the finals of the tournament, today. The match witnessed Growth Sports Academy emerging victorious over Lolab Stars by 7 wickets, successfully chasing a target of 105 runs in 10 overs. Aiman Bashir was the standout performer of the match, scoring 57 runs and taking 2 crucial wickets, earning her the Player of the Match title. Her remarkable performance throughout the tournament, amassing 257 runs and taking 5 wickets, also earned her the Player of the Tournament award.

The concluding ceremony was witnessed by Chief Guest SSP Kupwara Shri Shobhit Saksena-IPS, who presided over the event and presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. The winners were awarded with cash prize of ₹25,000/- and a trophy, while the runner-up team received a cash prize of ₹15,000/- and a trophy.

The ceremony also recognized the efforts of the players, officials from District Youth Sports, commentators, and organizers from DPL Kupwara. SSP Kupwara, in his address, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting women’s sports and providing opportunities for young female athletes to excel.
The event was also attended by Addl SP Kupwara Shri Gh Mohd Bhat-JKPS, DySP DAR Kupwara Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq-JKPS and other officers & officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services Kupwara.

Pertinently, the Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women was held for the first time and marks a significant step towards promoting sports culture among women in the district and highlights the commitment of the Police to support and encourage young female talent.
