The Government Degree College, Baramulla marked the successful conclusion of a one-week bootcamp on Drone Technology and Artificial Intelligence with a valedictory function held in the college auditorium. The bootcamp, organized in collaboration with NIELIT J&K, aimed to equip students with essential skills in emerging technologies, and was met with enthusiastic participation from over 120 students, including those from GDC Sopore.
The valedictory function was attended by key dignitaries, including the College Principal, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone, who lauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of skill development in combating unemployment. Prof. Tariq Ahmed Chalkoo, Staff Secretary and Dean of Skill Development, highlighted the college’s commitment to providing students with industry-relevant training, noting that the institution is a registered training partner under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
Joint Directors of NIELIT, Mr. Fayyaz Ahmed and Dr. Umar, were also present, along with Dr. Nisar Iqbal Wani, Head of the Computer Science Department, who played a pivotal role in coordinating the workshop. In his opening remarks, Dr. Syed Mutahar Aaqib, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Computer Sciences, underscored the role of drone technology in diverse fields such as defense, agriculture, and tourism, setting the stage for the week-long training.
The workshop, sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of drone technology.The curriculum included fundamental aspects such as design, operation, and the regulatory environment governing drone usage. Participants gained hands-on experience through practical sessions, learning to pilot drones, conduct aerial mapping, and explore the use of drones in areas like surveillance, agriculture, and disaster management.
The valedictory function featured the distribution of certificates to participants, acknowledging their dedication and successful completion of the program. Feedback collected during the event revealed a highly positive response from participants, who praised the practical focus and expertise of the trainers.
Dr. Nisar Iqbal Wani, Head PGDCS delivered the vote of thanks, expressing his appreciation for the support from NIELIT and the college administration, as well as the active participation of the students. He also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between educational institutions and industry bodies to keep pace with technological advancements.
The event concluded with two final technical sessions, where participants engaged in advanced hands-on training on drone simulators and real drones. Led by industry experts, these sessions provided deep insights into the practical applications of drone technology, further solidifying the skills acquired during the bootcamp.
