Northern Command on Sunday launched an awareness programme in the Union Territories (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to assist civil administration to prevent spread of the COVID-19.
“The patrolling vehicles known as Mobile Vehicle Check Points (MVCP) are being used for audio awareness across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” said army spokesperson, Lt Col Abhinav Navneet.“The aim of programme is to help the civil administration in both the UTs to contain the spread of the deadly virus, not only in civil society but also among the soldiers,” he said.
The spokesperson said the Command has also established a viral testing laboratory at Udhampur Command Hospital on the lines similar to the facilities set up by the army in other parts of the country.He said the army has moved its resources including man-power in rural areas and border areas to spread awareness among masses, especially how to maintain hygiene to counter the COVID-19.
“We have established at least 17 helpline numbers across the UTs J&K and Ladakh to address concerns of people who are in any kind of distress,” said the PRO.
He said amid the lockdown students of Army’s Goodwill Schools were being provided with the study material though e-learning to ensure their syllabus gets covered well in time and their crucial time is not wasted.
“We don’t want students to suffer on their studies front. The Army Goodwill Schools are providing all possible help to the students by connecting them though e-learning, especially WhatsApp,” said the Defense PRO.
“We are continuously coordinating with the civil administration and are ready to extend any help to civil administration in any part of the UTs,” he said.
The Lt Col said the Northern Command has ensured safety of the armed forces from the coronavirus and continuous check was being maintained of all the soldiers in all the units.
