North Kashmir’s Bangus Valley gears up for maiden tourism extra vaganza

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of north Kashmir, the stunning Bangus Valley is poised to take centre stage as the Department of Tourism Kashmir prepares to host the maiden “Bangus Mela” on September 10. This grand event aims to shine a light on the unparalleled beauty of this region, often referred to as ‘heaven on earth.’

With its location approximately 130 kilometres from Srinagar city, the Bangus Valley has recently emerged as a hotspot, attracting thousands of visitors during the summer months. The upcoming Bangus Mela is expected to further elevate its status as a must-visit destination.

The event is set to be graced by top officials, including Secretary of Tourism, Syed Abid Rashid Shah, and Director of Tourism Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob, among other prominent officials. Their presence underscores the government’s commitment to promoting the untapped potential of the Bangus Valley.
Local residents of Kupwara district, where the Bangus Valley is located, have expressed their enthusiasm for this groundbreaking initiative.

Shamim Ahmad Bhat, a local, believes that this event marks a significant milestone for the district. “This is the first major event organized by the Tourism Department in the Bangus Valley,” Bhat remarked.
He went on to express hope that the government’s interest in Bangus Valley will open up new avenues for tourism and generate employment opportunities for the educated youth of the district.
Adding to the optimism, Kupwara recently welcomed a fully-fledged CEO for the Lolab Bangus, Dragyari Development Authority (LBDA). This development showcases the government’s keen interest in bolstering border tourism and enhancing the overall appeal of the region, Bhat added.

The Bangus Mela is not merely an event, it is a testament to the government’s commitment to harnessing the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Kashmir. With its serene landscapes and untapped potential, the Bangus Valley has all the ingredients to become a tourism gem, drawing visitors from far and wide, Bhat maintained.

This event promises to be a game-changer, shining a spotlight on the unparalleled allure of the Bangus Valley and positioning it as a must-visit destination for travellers seeking the true essence of ‘heaven on earth.’
