Nahida Manzoor, who gained fame after conquering Mount Everest in 2019, today launched a paragliding venture in Barsoo village in the Awantipora area of Pulwama district with the aim of sparking economic prosperity by providing employment opportunities to local youth.
Founding her adventure company, Pampori and Daughters Adventure, five years ago, Nahida, a native of Zewan in Srinagar, launched this endeavor following rigorous trials and meticulous surveys of Barsoo village.
She said with the support of the district administration, the paragliding activity has now received official approval and operates daily from 9 am. to 5 pm.
“I am immensely grateful for the support extended by the district administration. Introducing this endeavor not only fills me with joy but also holds the promise of fostering employment opportunities for the local populace. Witnessing individuals gainfully employed through this initiative would be the ultimate fulfilment for me,” she said.
Residents lauded the Government’s initiative in recognizing Barsoo’s potential, particularly its strategic location along the bustling Srinagar-Jammu highway. With the advent of paragliding, tourists are expected to flock to the region, prolonging their stays and helping local businesses.
“The Government’s inaugural initiative is a testament to their dedication towards our region’s development. Barsoo’s inclusion on the tourism map will not only attract visitors but also provide much-needed livelihood opportunities for our community members,” a local said.
