Mehreen Jaan to represent J&K at National Wushu Championship

Mehreen Jaan, a standout athlete from the Khelo India Wushu Center in Handwara, has been selected to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the upcoming 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This selection marks another milestone in the growing success of Khelo India athletes at the national level.

Jaan secured her spot on the J&K team following rigorous selection trials held at the Indoor Stadium in Srinagar, organized by the Wushu Association of J&K. Her performance at the championship could pave the way for an even greater achievement, as a top-eight finish would qualify her for the national games.

The young athlete’s selection comes on the heels of an impressive track record. Jaan is already a Khelo India National Bronze Medalist, an All India University Silver Medalist, and a three-time State Champion in Wushu.

Expressing her gratitude, Jaan acknowledged the support of several key figures and organizations. She thanked the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, the Youth Services and Sports Department, J&K Sports Council, and the Wushu Association of J&K for their continued backing. Special mention was made of Kuldeep Handoo, the Drone Acharya Awardee and Chief Coach of the Indian Wushu Team, as well as her personal coach, Aijaz Hassan, for their guidance and contribution to her success.
