Meet Shahana Fatima Zargar, a spirited young girl whose mission is to take the sporting talent within J&K to the highest level.

She is the media manager of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. She is the first female sports journalist of J&K. She became the first woman to start a sports magazine in Kashmir. If that doesn’t impress you, perhaps nothing will.
She grew up in Kanikadal in Downtown, Srinagar and was determined about her dream and soon the news of J&K’s first sports magazine by a woman, Sports Unlimited, got out.
She recollects being called as the girl who used to sit behind the fence with a notepad. Her efforts were noticed and she was soon appointed as the media manager of the J&K cricket team.
Within a month of joining, she started the official newsletter for the J&K cricket board and launched their official website. She also asked to be sent along the cricket team for the various Ranji trophy matches, but when even that request was turned down, she travelled on her own money and accompanied her players.
She has worked continuously to get funds, recognition and the right facilities for her boys. “The players have now begun to get recognition and that feels great.” For this unstoppable force, differences of religion, gender or class, do not make a difference, especially on the cricket field. “I do all the things that a so-called ‘modern woman’ would do. Only that I wear a Burqa while doing it. That doesn’t make me regressive. I have ensured that within the team, there are no divides on the lines of religion.
