MC President Baramulla allocates Rs 5.11 cr for dev projects ..

On his final day in office as the longest-serving President of the Municipal Council Baramulla, Omar Azhar Kakroo on Thursday presented a parting gift to the town—a substantial allocation of Rs 5.11 crores for critical developmental projects.

Kakroo’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of Baramulla and its inhabitants throughout his two terms as the President of MC Baramulla has significantly elevated the town’s infrastructure and the quality of life for its residents.

Kakroo said that during his initial term, he endorsed crucial acquisitions, including 1100 streetlights, 8 garbage hoopers, a new sucker machine and 4000 dustbins. “These efforts notably amplified the town’s sanitation standards and public services, and fostered a cleaner and more organised living environment,” he added.

Further augmenting his administration’s efforts, Omar said the greenlit transformative developmental projects such as ornamental lighting in the main market, beautification of Carriappa Park’s outer space, upgrading of car parking amenities, and crucial deep drainage works in Noorbagh, Stadium Colony, Janbazpora, Sheikh Ul Alam Colony, and Jetty Khawaja Bagh, amounted to nearly 41 crore rupees.

Notable projects include the Bagh-i-Islam marriage hall and the Fish Market Bridge, he added.
The outgoing MC President said that in his subsequent term, he directed an additional 5.11 crore rupees towards the town’s advancement. “These funds are earmarked for a clock tower, a decorative fountain, and over 100 additional developmental initiatives,” he said

Kakroo said that 10 additional garbage hoopers were acquired, and the installation of 620 streetlights, including high-mast streetlights, will further enhance the town’s infrastructure and services.
Beyond infrastructural improvements, Omar said he prioritised the residents’ welfare by disbursing funds totalling Rs 4.60 crores to 641 eligible beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY-U).
Additionally, 7.81 lakh rupees were allocated to various beneficiaries under the IHHL scheme (Integrated Household latrines), alongside the construction of 4 public toilets and 4 community toilets during his tenure, costing 98.50 lakhs, according to Kakroo.
