Maria Noorain, a standout talent from the JKCA talent hunt hailing from Kulgam district, has been granted a coveted spot by the National Women Selection Committee to partake in the U23 Women’s High Performance Camp, organized by the BCCI.
The camp, scheduled from April 26th to May 16th, will take place in Bengaluru and will be overseen by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) with top-tier coaches specializing in various disciplines. The announcement was relayed by VVS Laxman, Director of NCA, to Brig. Anil Gupta, Member Administration of JKCA.
Maria boasts an impressive record as a Right Arm Medium Pacer, consistently clinching wickets. Her notable performance includes representing JKCA in the national T20 tournament, where she secured 11 wickets across seven matches with an economy rate of 5.06.
The Sub Committee members have expressed contentment with Maria’s selection, advising her to seize the opportunity presented. Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development, emphasized that only those displaying exceptional talent and performance are chosen for such camps. They suggest Maria to focus on refining her skills, particularly in areas where she can further excel.
JKCA takes pride in the consistent representation of its players across all age group high performance camps this season.
Brig. Anil Gupta remarked that this bodes well for women’s cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, noting the recent rise of women athletes in the region.
Additionally Sunil Sethi acknowledged the contributions of selectors and coaches to this success, urging them to continue nurturing talent for future achievements.
