Kupwara’s Mehreen Jan wins Gold at 8th Wushu Federation Cup

In a historic achievement, Mehreen Jan has become the first girl from Kupwara district to win a gold medal at the prestigious 8th Wushu Federation Cup 2025, held in Chhattisgarh from March 25 to 27. Representing the Khelo India Centre (KIC), Handwara, the young athlete showcased exceptional skill, resilience, and determination, securing victory after five hard-fought bouts.

Mehreen’s win not only marks a personal triumph but also represents a significant milestone for the Kupwara district and the broader Jammu and Kashmir sports community. Her success underscores the immense potential that lies in remote regions, waiting to be nurtured with the right guidance and opportunities.

Following her victory, Mehreen expressed deep gratitude to Miss Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, for her unwavering support of athletes from underserved areas. She also acknowledged the pivotal role played by Mr. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach of the Indian Wushu Team, whose mentorship she credited as being instrumental to her achievement.
