The University of Kashmir (KU) demonstrated its cultural and artistic excellence at the 38th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, hosted by Panjab University, Chandigarh and organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). KU’s contingent, comprising 46 students from the main and satellite campuses as well as affiliated and constituent colleges, secured eight prestigious awards in various categories including theatre, fine arts, literature, music and folk dance.
The awards were spread across different disciplines: Saroosh from IFMA secured 4th place in poster making, while Suhail Khan from IMFA won 3rd place in clay modelling. Owais Amin from the Department of Law earned the 5th position in spot photography, and Hena Shah, also from the Department of Law, claimed 2nd place in mehendi design.
Tazain Mehmood from the Department of Psychology achieved 5th place in western vocal solo, and Asif Fayaz from IMFA earned 5th place in western instrumental solo. The quiz team comprising Mohammad Miraan Qureshi from SSM College, Muhammad Asif from the Department of Law, and Farhana Fayaz from Islamia College secured 4th place, while Aliya Ali from the Department of Political Science earned 4th place in elocution.
Vice Chancellor of KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, praised the students said, “This achievement reflects our university’s dedication to promoting creativity and cultural excellence.”
Prof. Pervaiz Ahmad, Dean of Students Welfare, added, “The passion and dedication of our students have earned them well-deserved recognition.” Cultural Officer Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, who led the contingent, expressed his pride, saying, “This achievement showcases the exceptional talent of our students.”
Suhail Khan and Hena Shah will now represent the northern region in clay modelling and mehendi design at the National Youth Festival at Amity University, Noida, in March 2025.
