Kashmir’s Snowshoe Athletes To Represent India At Japan World Games

A proud moment for Kashmir as the nine-member SnowShoe team who all hail from Kashmir would be representing India in the World SnowShoe championship-2020 in Myoko Japan. The championship is organized by World SnowShoe Federation (WSSF) and Indian team is being fielded by SnowShoe Federation of India that is based in Gulmarg.

Secretary to Government , Youth Services and Sports Department, J&K Sarmad Hafeez on Monday flagged off SnowShoe team for the participation in World SnowShoe Championship-2020.

While flagging off team Hafeez termed it a great new activity that has got immense potential in the J&K. He wished members of the contingent luck and hoped that they will shine during the championship.

“SnowShoe is relatively new sports and activity in Kashmir but is too much popular in USA and European Countries. It is not just a sport but everyday activity in these Countries during winter months. We in J&K have got lot of places were SnowShoe activity and sports events can be held,” Sarmad said.

On the occasion he revealed that J&K would be hosting first Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg and during that event SnowShoe would be introduced as new major activity in the Country

The nine-member team include two students Zain Ali and Ayaan Bin Shahnaz from Burn Hall Higher Secondary Institute and their instructor Feroz Ahmad. It also includes other four senior athletes Gulzar Ahmad, Mushtaq Bashir, Zulfqar and Muzamil Hussain. Apart from that they have two officials as well.

Team left from Srinagar on Monday and would be leaving from Delhi on Wednesday. The championship in Myoko is being held from February 14 to 16.
