Ahead of the Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) tournament, Kashmiri women cricket players attended practice camp while being excited at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium, Srinagar on Wednesday.
Players from different districts across the valley, who were recently shortlisted, after the trials in the talent hunt program conducted by JKCA for the upcoming JKCA cricket tournament for seniors to be held two days later, in June 2022.
While speaking to Rising Kashmir some of the women cricketers shared their experience with the practice camp after being shortlisted for the upcoming tournament and said that they are very excited about taking part in the tournament.
Women cricketer and batter Afreen said they are practicing in this camp after being shortlisted by JKCA whose talent hunt program 2022 recently concluded.
“The JKCA conducted trials a few days ago and shortlisted players are practicing in this camp ahead of the tournament, the matches of the tournament are to commence after two days,” she said.
She added that women players are preparing in batting, fielding and bowling departments for sharpening their talent and skills ahead of the tournament.
“The talent hunt is a kind of major step towards facilitating women players by providing a ground, a platform to showcase their talent,” she said.
Talking about the talent of women in cricket she said that Jammu and Kashmir has plenty of talent in women sportspersons, numerous girls in the valley are very talented.
All they need is to be provided with space, platform, and facilities and they shall give in return their talent,” she said, and added, “We need to be polished, shined, and allowed to grow as the women in the valley are very talented.”
Another women cricketer participant Mehak Sofi who hails from district Anantnag said players from every district of the valley have participated in the talent hunt and they have been practicing in the camp for the last two days and believe it to be a good initiative for bringing forth the new talent before the selectors.
“These kinds of talent hunt programs are very important for both boys and girls. If youths are engaged in sports, they can remain at bay from indulging in different types of bad habits, especially depression which is drastically consuming the current generation,” she said.
She added this is a commendable initiative for both boys and girls and if one has the talent they should come forward and showcase it.
“If we could continue the practice, we would touch the skies as I believe there is good scope in cricket,” she said.
