Kashmir, known for its breathtaking beauty and vibrant culture, is also emerging as a breeding ground for sports talent. Many young Kashmiris have excelled in various sports disciplines, including cricket, football, martial arts, and skiing, bringing honor to the state and the nation.
Among these rising stars are Baraar Sajad Qazi and Mannat Sajad Qazi, siblings who have made a significant impact in skiing. The pair recently participated in the National Alpine Skiing Championship held at Gulmarg, where they collectively secured four medals.
Baraar, competing in the J2 category, earned two silver medals in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events. Meanwhile, Mannat, the youngest skier in the C1 category, secured two bronze medals in the same events.
Mannat, a student at Mallinson Girls School in Srinagar, credited her brother for inspiring her to pursue skiing. “I began skiing at the age of four, encouraged by my brother who was already involved in the sport. Skiing captivates me because it’s both thrilling and demanding. My aspiration is to become a professional skier and represent India on the international stage,” she expressed.
Baraar, with over a decade of skiing experience, expressed pride in his sister’s achievements and expressed optimism for their continued success. “We train together and support each other. We’re grateful to our parents, coaches, and sponsors for their unwavering support. Winning medals for our state and nation brings us immense joy. Our goal is to enhance our skills and performance and participate in more competitions in the future,” he stated.
The Qazi siblings garnered praise and recognition from fellow participants, officials, and dignitaries at the championship. They also extended gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Winter Games Association and the Winter Games Federation of India for organizing the event and providing them with a platform to showcase their talent.
The Qazi siblings exemplify the spirit of numerous young Kashmiris who are pursuing their sporting passions and making a mark at the national level. Their journey serves as an inspiration for others to chase their dreams and elevate Kashmir’s stature on the sporting map.
