Kashmiri cyclists Aabid, Nazir pedal from Srinagar to Leh, covering 430 km in 3 days

Two Kashmiri Cyclists Aabid Rashid Bhat and Nazir Ahmad Wani have peddled from Srinagar to Leh in three days while covering a distance of 430 km on a Mountain biking expedition.

Cyclists Bhat and Wani started their cycling journey on August 13 and finished the three days Srinagar-Leh Mountain biking expeditions by reaching Leh on 15 August this year.

Aabid Rashid Bhat, 45 hails from Malbagh, Naseem Bagh area in Srinagar city, and is currently serving as general manager at Jamkash Vehicleades Kashmir private limited. Nazir Ahmad Wani 50 hails from Dana Mazar Safa Kadal in Srinagar and is dry fruit whole seller.

While sharing details with Rising Kashmir President Jammu Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (JKMBA) Riyaz Ahmad Wani said that during their journey, the duo achieved this feat by covering a total distance of 430 kilometers from Srinagar to Leh in just three days.

“On their first day (Saturday) Aabid and Nazir pedalled from Srinagar to Drass, while covering a distance of 141 kilometers while they covered the distance of 134 kilometers from Drass to Budthkharbu in the second phase on August 14 (Sunday),” he said and added riders covered 154 kilometers distance from Bodthkharbu to Leh in the third and final stage of the expedition on Monday.

During this expedition, the duo passed through different high altitudes (passes) including 12,139 ft Namika Pass, and 13478 ft Fotu La pass, one of the highest points on the way to Leh -Kargil highway.

Wani added that both the riders are senior members of the Jammu & Kashmir Mountain Biking Association and have accomplished different mountain biking expeditions earlier also which include Razdaan pass, Sadhna pass, Sinthan pass etc to name a few.

President JKMBA and Secretary Asif Bhat hailed both the riders for their efforts for achieving another milestone by completing the 430 km expedition with flying colors.

Cyclist Aabid told that the expedition was not an easy one but despite various hardships they made it happen.

“The expedition was full of challenges and was very difficult for us to ride for 430 km on the altitude of 13478 ft but our daily practice proved very fruitful to accomplish the task,” he said.

“I am grateful to cyclist Nazir who accompanied me right from Srinagar to Leh and completed the expedition with me for making the expedition more adventurous,” added Rider Aabid.
